About the Business
The severe recession of 1989/90 resulted in a new approach to the repair of houses with structural damage and many social landlords questioned whether the booming underpinning industry was providing them with cost effective repair solutions. Research in the marketplace showed that many underpinning projects were unnecessary or, where partial underpinning had been recommended, further more costly repairs were often needed.
A new approach to structural repairs appeared to be necessary and Bersche-Rolt's clients started to establish the cause of structural damage and to look for sensible, economical solutions. For example, many social landlords had no procedures for the regular inspection of their properties, or for the control of vegetation and trees, or the checking and maintenance of drains, which often contribute to subsidence related damage.
